Usually, a foul ends in ball-in-hand, where the opponent could place the cue ball anyplace on the table-until it’s a break foul, by which case the cue ball must be positioned behind the head string and shot forward. One participant strikes the racked balls using the cue ball from behind the pinnacle string. Each participant is assigned both solids or stripes after the break.
